Arlington Tigers: We Play for Hope
A-SPAN is the host of the Arlington Tigers Street Soccer Team, a program designed to provide support and social structure for our clients, as well as a link them to services in the community and assist them in obtaining permanent housing. The Arlington Tigers are a program of Street Soccer USA, whose mission to end homelessness is through the use of “sports for social change.” Players and teams of Street Soccer USA show great success in setting and achieving their goals to end homelessness: up to 75% of players obtain housing within the first year of playing on a Street Soccer team.
Under the leadership of co-founders Ken Belkosky, A-SPAN Permanent Supportive Housing Client, and Sarah Morse, A-SPAN Volunteer & Special Events Coordinator, the Arlington Tigers hope to continue this success in Northern Virginia. Clients, volunteers and supporters of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate in the program. Practices are held twice per week. 
The Tigers recently returned from their first trip to the annual Street Soccer USA Cup, a national Street Soccer tournament held every summer. Teams from across the nation meet and play each other during a weekend full of encouragement and competition. This past summer’s Cup was held in New York City, and the final matches were played in Times Square. Read a recap of the SSUSA Cup 2012 by visiting the SSUSA website here.
The Arlington Tigers would like to thank the Street Soccer DC Knights for their leadership and mentorship in founding the Arlington team. The Tigers look forward to working with other local programs to create a strong Street Soccer DC Metro League. Together we can help many players get off the streets.
