Shelter Program Volunteer Shifts
Shelter Program Assistant
Daily: 4 pm – 10 pm
The Shelter Program Assistant will greet clients as they enter the shelter. You will sign them in and find out what services they need to use that evening and which chore they would like to sign up for. You will assist staff in monitoring the common areas. Volunteers for this activity must be 18 or older. Shifts are flexible.
Shelter Program Breakfast Server
Daily: 6 am – 8 am
Shelter Program Breakfast Servers will hand out a light breakfast to clients before they leave the shelter program for the day. You will make decaf coffee and serve items such as cereal, granola bars, oatmeal, etc. Volunteers for this activity must be 18 or older.
Shelter Program Lunch Server
Daily: 11:30 am – 1 pm
The Shelter Program Lunch Server will assist in preparing and/or serving lunch to clients. If a meal has not been provided for the day, the lunch assistant will help to make sandwiches, etc. and will then serve the meals at noon. If a meal has been provided, the lunch assistant will simply help in serving it and cleaning up afterwards. Volunteers for this activity must be 18 or older.
Shelter Program Dinner Server
Daily: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Shelter Program Dinner Servers will be in charge of serving the hot meal that is prepared by A-SPAN’s Kitchen Manager. You will serve each client and ensure equal portions are given to each person. All Dinner Servers will practice safe food handling. Volunteers for this activity must be 18 or older, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Shelter Program Hot Meal-Purchase and Prepare
Daily: 5:30 pm
We serve a hot dinner daily at our shelter program. The meal is prepared by A-SPAN, however volunteers sometimes wish to provide the meal themselves. In order to do this, you must sign up at least one week in advance so we can notify the Kitchen Manager. You must purchase and prepare a hot meal to feed 70 people. We request you provide at least a protein, a starch and a vegetable. The meal must be delivered hot and ready to serve at 5:30 pm on the day of your activity.
If you’ve never volunteered with A-SPAN before or you’re new to our online Volunteer Information Center, get started now by submitting your A-SPAN Volunteer Application Form.
